Vol au vent

The vol au vent is the pastry used to make bouchées à la reine. It's a savory pastry you find in most Parisian boulangeries or charcuteries. I miss it a bit and thought I should celebrate with an impromptu illustration in my own kind of surrealist style.

(vol au vent means fly in the wind in French)

C'est une drole d'impression, que de regarder les restes de son dejeuner et d'y voir une image.
Et puis de se rappeller ensuite qu'en France, les oeufs sont marrons et les serviettes sont blanches.

L'heure joyeuse

Le titre est une référence, l'heure joyeuse est la première Bibliothèque pour enfants française, crée grâce à des des fonds américains en 1924. Plus d'informations ici .

I spotted my son and one of his school friend reading together and sharing, and for some reason it made me think of that library in my home quarter, in Paris, la Bibliotheque l'Heure Joyeuse, who was the first library for youth, created in the twenties, thanks to American funds. 

Coloriage

We had some fun with the Bu. I drew a jelly fish, asked him as a joke if he wanted to draw the eyes and mouth, and he did it. I loved the result, so I thought you might like to do the same! I  created a whole page for you to print and have fun with. Enjoy!

What is this? A bunny!

I was eating in a deli and enjoying some time off, and sketching like crazy because I don't have much time for myself. A lot of my cutest pictures where created like that, between two bites and a cup of tea. I was happy as a clam and I hardly noticed the surrounding conversations, until I heard " All I want to do is go back home and shoot people". Gamers. Of course. But then I couldn't help hearing a bit of their conversations, about guns and machines and severed arms, and that might explain a bit of the concerned expression of my bunny.  It made me laugh when I realized. 

Il a l'air un peu consterne ce lapin, non? C'est normal. Je l'ai dessine dans un café, entre mon sandwich et une tasse de thé, comme beaucoup de mes dessins. Je n'ai pas beaucoup de temps pour moi, je dessine partout ou c'est possible. Donc j'étais joyeusement concentrée, et n'entendais rien de ce qui se passait autour de moi, jusqu'à ce que je choppe une petite phrase " j'ai juste envie de rentrer a la maison et de commencer à tirer sur des gens" Hein? Ha tout va bien, c'était une conversation de gamers, reconnaissables à leurs vêtements noirs délavés, à ce teint de cadavre très frais et cette légère odeur de renfermé qui les caractérise. J'ai continué à dessiner tranquillement, mais sans pouvoir m'empêcher t'entendre ici ou là des références faites aux façons diverses et variées d'arracher un bras ou une tête, etc...

D'ou l'expression du lapin, un peu. Ca m'a bien fait rire quand je m'en suis rendue compte, alors je l'ai laissée.

A little bunny told me...

I always found a bit weird this habit to put babies on the potty every half an hour or so without asking if they want to do it or not. 

Never do to a baby something you wouldn't like him to do to you.

J'ai , je l'avoue, un petit peu de mal avec certains adultes qui fichent le bebe sur le pot sans lui demander son avis, à heure fixe, et pis c'est tout. J'aimerais pas du tout qu'on me traite comme ça. Liberté pour les bébés!

Le premier (ou la première) qui déc*nne dans les coms, je préviens, je lui demande si il/elle fait caca à heures fixes .

Healthy snacks

Although I do think that whole grain crackers and baby carrots are good and healthy, and that a well balanced diet is important...I also believe that nutrition shouldn't rhyme with punition. Comparing the amount of fat in a granola bar and in home made chocolate cake was particularly enlightening.

Oui je sais, je vis en Californie, ou healthy rime avec Foodie...Et  je suis bien d'accord qu'il faut des légumes et du grain complet dans un régime équilibré.

Sauf que manger ça ne doit pas être un pensum, que la proportion de gras et de sucre dans une barre granola c'est pas rien, et qu'un gâteau au chocolat maison peut -être plus léger et plus sympa...

Ce petit lapin est la pour vous rappeler qu'une part de gâteau au chocolat ne le tuera pas.
