To London, to London : museums and gardens

Being on vacation with a little boy, I knew it wouldn't be a good idea to expect too much. So I did my homework, remembered the London I loved as a younger adult and made a list of what I really wanted to see, complete with a cheerful bear. I did every thing on the list, with one exception: the V&A textile section was closed to the public when I went. I was very disappointed!

Our favorite museum was the V&A museum of Childhood. The light is not fantastic, the exhibit old fashioned. But the toys and object shown are absolutely delightful. Tons of ideas and inspiration.

The Tate Modern was nice. I was expecting more, but we are so lucky here with the LACMA and I was used to very high standards with Beaubourg. We gushed with the Bu on Picasso and Matisse (he likes paintings that looks happy, and I agree) , and cheerfully despised everything that looked like poop. Before my six years old made me notice , I never noted how much modern art tend to be brown and unshaped.

Anyway. We had a glorious day at Kensington gardens and had a sweet picnic and play time. One of our favorite place in London indeed. As my son said, amazed :"Look Maman, it's green all over", and such big eyes saying so.  My little Californian guy is more used to mediterranean, drier  sceneries. We really loved the big, large quiet garden and I will miss it very much.

 

Allez, je vous colle un diaporama, ça en dira plus que des mots sur notre jolie visite des musées et parcs. En tout cas, je suis ravie, j'avais préparé mon voyage très raisonnablement en pensant à mon fiston, et en me limitant à l'essentiel j'en ai fait plus que je n'espérais. Je conseille le batobus à Londres, c'est parfait pour circuler avec des petits garçons! J'ai évité la  Tour de Londres , la relève de la garde et autres monuments, en plein mois de Juillet je n'avais pas envie de voir trop de touristes. Par contre, à nous les musées et les parcs!

Le V & A museum, nous ne l'avions pas fait en entier, et donc pas ces sections (j'ignorais leur existence, nous étions tombés sur le musée un peu par hasard, donc pas préparés), ce sera pour une prochaine fois !! Par contre, en Isère, je viens de faire un musée du textile, un petit mais très intéressant avec une exposition temporaire sur les motifs d'enfance que tu aurais probablement apprécié ! (en ligne mercredi)
