A comme Anatole. J'ai travaillé l'année derniere sur un trés joli abécédaire pour Fleurus.

C'est le genre de choses qu'on offre avant les vacances pour embêter les enfants avant la rentrée, mais là haha les enfants ont leur revanche, c'est aussi et surtout un très beau livre d'images.

Avec des lapins, des vaches, une grenouille qui mange des fraises et des étourneaux qui boulottent des épis de maïs, mais personne n'a été malade. Bien au contraire.

Flying Octopus

It's OK : my son found the octopus in the garden.

Ok, let me explain: I was on Skype with my favorite publisher ( the very one who helped me create " My Town "). It was quite warm so I left the window of my (small) studio opened. And my octopus kamifusen flew by the window and I was like :
"Oh noes, my octopus flew away!!"
Which is always a nice thing to say when you are on Skype trying to look sharp and professional? But It's OK. My publisher knows I'm crazy, anyway. And my son found the octopus in the garden. I put it back on the window, but this time I added a bit o'glue. Cause you never know. This is a flying octopus after all.

La pieuvre a atterri dans le jardin! Et mon fils l'a trouvé.

J'ai eu une conversation très intéressante avec mon éditrice favorite ( avec qui j'ai crée Mon Village, achetez-le qu'il est bon) . Nous étions sur Skype, imaginant des trucs chouettes ( très chouettes) et j'avais laissé la fenêtre ouverte, mais tu ne veux pas savoir la température hum. Non. Et il y avait un peu de vent , heureusement... Sauf que j'ai une collection de kamifusen* accrochées à la fenêtre , et que la pieuvre s'est envolée. J'ai fait "Oh non, ma pieuvre s'est envolée" ce qui est toujours un truc à dire, genre, si tu veux avoir l'air sérieux et pro. Heureusement mon éditrice sait déjà que je suis folle. Et la pieuvre a atterri dans le jardin.

J'ai raccroché mon kamifusen, mais avec un point de colle cette fois ci. Je ne me vois pas faire le tour des voisins en demandant si ils ont vu ma pieuvre.

*la prochaine fois qu'on te demande comment on dit kokeshi au pluriel, repond raah mais non, la forme plurielle est très rare en Japonais.

As an answer to my friend Ryan who kindly filmed himself drawing and shared it, I filmed myself sketching and inking .

I'm working at a cafe terrasse because I am from the Left Bank and Parisian artists ain't able to work anywhere else. There is no editing whatsoever and it was a windy day!

Ryan, can you see the first frames where my hand is hesitating? I'm mentally drawing a square on the page and dividing it in thirds. The fact that you can actually see it is a bit creepy, no?

The little fly that invite itself at the end of the reel is a fruit fly. Fruit flies like bananas

Actual time of drawing is 3:05 and was filmed twice faster because otherwise it's boooring!

Un de mes amis s'est filmé dessinant, et comme on n'est pas de la même culture, j'ai été très étonnée de voir comme nous avions une façon différente d'aborder la chose. J'ai une approche structurelle de dessin académique ( ben oui même pour un renard) et lui part d'un détail pour travailler ensuite en espace négatif. Ses dessins sont plus académiques que les miens, comme quoi tu peux utiliser la technique que tu veux, c'est le résultat qui compte, tu es libre dans ta tête.

Donc j'ai filmé pour lui montrer.

Je travaille dehors parce qu'avec ce beau temps ce serait une honte de rester à l'intérieur. Du coup on voit très bien le moment ou j'ai cru que j'allais me prendre le parasol sur la margoulette. La video est deux fois plus rapide que pour de vrai parceque sinon ce serait très leeeeent à suivre.

Pinterest like a pro (1)

Do you have a Pinterest account? I do, and I use it a LOT. I am a very visual person, it has totally changed the way I work and the way I bookmark my favorite references.

Pinterest is fun but there is one little problem. When you are making a Pin from a blog post , it Pins the blog location, NOT the post itself. That's the reason why sometimes you click on a Pin all you get is a whole big pretty blog, and nothing about the cute tutorial you pinned two months ago.
The tutorial is not on the front page anymore and you will have to dig in the older posts to find it.

Its very frustrating, but at least for the pins you pin yourself from a blog, there is a solution:

You need to find the post permalink. Now,I know, my geeky friends are totally delighted by this wonderful piece of news, but most of you will be like :"What??"

A permalink, in short, is the address of the post itself, not the address of the blog it's posted on. And the most simple way to get it, on most blogs, is to simply...very simply...

Click on the title of the Post.

Like here : click on the Title "Pinterest like a Pro" . The internet address on your toolbar changes : instead of "http://del4yo.squarespace.com", now you can read "http://del4yo.squarespace.com/non-dairy-diary/2013/5/7/pinterest-like-a-pro-1.html"

Bingo. Now if you pin the picture of that post or click on my Pinterest icon in the commentary section, it will pin the exact post, not the blog.

I just saved your access to so many tutorials, didn't I?

Etes-vous sur Pinterest? J'y suis, et c'est un fantastique outil pour travailler ou partager des bonnes idées avec mes copines. Par contre, il y a un petit bout de code qui m'agace prodigieusement sur Pinterest : quand on pin depuis un blog et pas depuis un post, le lien devient obsolète quand l'auteur du blog reposte...Il faut aller chercher le post dans les archives, et c'est parfois décourageant.

Le truc c'est de trouver l'adresse fixe du post, qui ne changera pas. On appelle ça un permalink. Et la façon la plus simple de le trouver, c'est de cliquer, dans la plupart des blogs, sur le titre du post, ici "Pinterest like pro". L'adresse dans la barre outil change et devient plus longue...Voila, vous pouvez utiliser Pinterest!

Je viens de vous sauver une bonne pelletée de tutoriels, non? Y'a pas de quoi, avec plaisir.

What do you do?

What do you do when stuck in bed? I like to be kept busy so it's a bit hard on me when I have to stay quiet and wait to feel better. I also felt a bit sad for my son, waiting for his Maman patiently, so I made him an amigurumi bunny.

I am a bit too picky and impatient to really follow instructions. I began to make the head and body of the bunny in the Simply Crochet issue 2 but I didn't like the hands,feet and ears so I replaced them with simple, geometrical progressions close to the famous Amineko model . I picked a variegated sock yarn because I get bored easily, but made sure to make the nose and hands with white yarn to make them more recognizable.

I used the Darice eyes which are the cheaper on the market, with shank and washers for safety. I made sure that they were placed, just like on my drawings, exactly equidistant from ears and nose.

The most difficult part was to embroider the nose...I used a tutorial from Beautiful Nightmare , but lightly traced the smile with a pencil before embroidering. I wanted it cheerful and quiet at the same time, what do you think?

My son is 6 but fortunately not too old for hugging cute amigurumis. This little bunny is now on his bed and loves storytelling time.

It's been a while!

I was working on 3 projects (2 activity books, one toy) AND I went through surgery. I am a bit exhausted , getting over the whole thing, and quite happy I am finished with this though time in my life.

I had time to think a lot, crochet a bit, rest a bit. I feel lucky and happy because I have great friends and a wonderful family.

I apologize for letting the blog down for a while, I didn't have time for fun! But I am back and ready to share fun pictures and paper enginering!

Je suis desolée ne pas avoir posté pendant un certain temps, je n'ai pas eu le temps de m'amuser! Je travaillais sur 3 projets (2 livres d'activités, un jouet) et j'ai été malade.

Je suis un fatiguée, et contente que ce moment un peu difficile soit passé.

J'ai eu le temps de réfléchir beaucoup, de crocheter un peu, de me reposer un peu. J'ai de la chance , j'ai de très bons amis et une famille fantastique, ça aide à faire passer les moments difficiles.

Je vais revenir doucement, avec plein d'idées et de projets!

Very special

Sometimes people wonder why I changed career, from SFX to illustration? It's because of all the very special little children I met. I always put an extra effort in my images: a hidden joke, a better style, another fun detail. Because I know that somewhere in the world, a very special boy or girl will notice it. It's the kind of fun I used to share with my family and I find fantastic I can share it worldwide.

I was drawing a plethora of little characters for a book and this one just popped from my memory. A very special girl who is growing to be a wonderful young woman. Time passes, and I don't mind getting older because I can see, and sometimes help, little people growing up.

I have a very special one behind me just right now, checking the progress of my next book when he is not singing Red Hot Chilly Pepper songs while building a giant city in my studio...Let's get back to work.

Je faisais des recherches pour des petits personnages et cette petite fille est sortie tout droit de ma mémoire...C'est une de mes petites demoiselles d'honneur à mon mariage, qui a grandit pour devenir une jeune fille qui a beaucoup de peps. J'ai toujours dit que j'étais heureuse d'être mariée avec mon mari, c'est un lien très spécial et très intense...Mais alors la fête elle même, c'était une torture! Je ne suis pas du tout une princesse dans l'âme. N'empêche, je le referais, juste pour la tête de mon Jules me voyant arriver derrière ma petite troupe de flower girls, fermement arrimée à la main de mon neveu qui menait la marche.

Il y a un moment très spécial, quand je lis ou que je partage une activité avec mon fils, ses copains, mes neveux, où ils lèvent la tête parce qu'ils ont remarqué un détail qui les amuse ou compris un passage un peu difficile. J'aime beaucoup cette petite étincelle, je n'en reviens pas que ce soit devenu mon métier...

Frais, frais le fond d'ecran

I made the background a bit subdued on the top of the page because that's where I have more icons.

It's still not perfect, I think I will make more backgrounds as practice...

Biking in photoshop

It's not really pretty and only an element of a bigger illustration. But I am one of the very few artists in the world able to bike on Photoshop.

I love a bad pun. Especially if it works in BOTH French and English .

Ce n'est pas la meilleure illo du monde, seulement une partie d'un jouet de papier. Mais je suis probablement une des rares artistes à ce jour capable de faire du vélo sur Photoshop.

Ce blog devient trop serieux, il va falloir y remédier.

French April Fool's day

In France, children celebrate the first day of April by pining paper fish to people's back, hoping they won't notice. I wish I was in Paris today , just for the sheer fun of it.

In 2011 I created some cute fishies to hang or play with...This year I updated them with fresher, up to date colors.
